Cargo Carriers and Os Du Randt talk water conservation with Zastron youth

Cargo Carriers, South Africa’s premium transportation, logistics and supply chain service provider, has responded to South Africa’s water crisis by joining hands with Water Shortage South Africa (#WSSA 2016) to supply water to the farming community of the drought-stricken Zastron area. Zastron surround is the commercial centre for cattle, sheep, maize, wheat and dairy farming and has sadly now become another casualty of the drought. Located in some of the most picturesque countryside in the eastern Free State, just off the N6 and north east of Rouxville, Zastron nestles at the foot of Aasvoelberg, and is the proud home to the only Cape Vulture colony in the province.

On 10th February 2016, water, the elixir of life, was transported from Johannesburg to Zastron in support of the children attending Zastron High School; a small school with approximately 400 students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. The learners’ faces lit up in excitement as the Cargo Carriers vehicle arrived, complete with bottled water aboard. To their utter delight, local sporting hero and celebrity, Os Du Randt arrived to spend time with them and Cargo Carriers, discussing the importance of water conservation. The former Free State Cheetahs and South African Springbok rugby player stressed the value of “water, the gift of life” upon the young people, explaining how we all have a role to play in saving this much needed commodity. In typical Free State hospitality, Rene Roos, the Principal of Zastron High School and her team ensured Cargo Carriers and the much-loved Du Randt were well taken care of.

Providing transport and water in this collaborative project has been a humbling experience for the Cargo Carriers team.  Marketing Director Andre Jansen van Vuuren expressed the company’s views on the project,
“We are proud to be associated with our partners Zastron School, Os Du Randt and #WSSA 2016 in this essential project that is changing lives and making a positive difference. Working together with fellow South Africans on projects of this nature is indicative of the spirit of our country. We thank them all for their participation. We also wish to express our sincere thanks to our drivers, Clement Selometsi and Johannes Thabane; and branch managerRudi Coetzee. With such an exceptional team aboard, we could ensure the gift of life was delivered timeously and safely.”
