Cementing the Deal - Cargo Carriers and Lafarge

JSE-listed supply chain and logistics service provider Cargo Carriers has announced its contract with Lafarge Cement. Cargo Carriers Fuel and Powders Business Unit will expand its footprint by delivering dry bulk cement countrywide.

French construction giant Lafarge produces 3-m tons of cement per year. The company’s Lichtenburg cement plant is one of the largest, technically advanced cement production facilities in the country. Lafarge operates cement clinker grinding stations at Randfontein and in Richards Bay.
Cargo Carriers will initially operate 30 dry bulk tankers, Mercedes Benz Actros 2644s, with an opportunity to expand. Loading of the cement will take place at Lafarge’s facilities at Lichtenburg, Randfontein and Kaalfontein for delivery countrywide.

Key factors in Cargo Carriers’ securing of the contract with Lafarge include the company’s continuous investment in new equipment, which has provided it with greater capacity and turnaround times.
The company’s reputation for reliability and high safety, health, environment and quality scores distinguish it as a leading service provider in transportation.
“Cement is by far the fastest growing part of our bulk powders portfolio and our experience positioned us perfectly to support Lafarge’s growth,” says Cargo Carriers CEO, Murray Bolton.

“We are confident that our flexibility to cope with industry fluctuations will help us meet mutual productivity and profitability objectives, and will ensure a successful partnership with Lafarge, “ says Cargo Carriers’ Fuel and Powders Business Unit GM, Nico Gerber.
