In a proactive response to BBBEE Codes, Cargo Carriers Limited and Eyethu Haulage (Pty) Ltd formed a black empowerment joint venture, Ezethu Logistics (Pty) Ltd.

The parties have long recognised a business imperative in the industry for meaningful empowerment and believe the venture is a fitting contribution to the country's need for economic equity.

Cargo Carriers owns 49 percent of Ezethu. Eyethu Haulage - a wholly black-owned and black-managed company holds 51 percent. With access to Cargo Carriers' infrastructure and assets to reduce costs, Ezethu enjoys adequate back-up in terms of vehicles, staff and administration.

The company primarily operates in the fuel industry with notable customers such as Total SA and Shell SA.

Ezethu Logistics operates 11 vehicles out of the Total Depot in Waltloo, Pretoria and delivers fuel to 255 filling stations in and around Pretoria.

Ezethu Logistics have a contract with Shell SA and operates 5 vehicles out of the Shell Depot in Boksburg and delivers various oils to 20 mines in the Mpumalanga and Northwest provinces, as well as lubricant oil to various customers in and around Gauteng.

Before going on his own, Mabitsela spent eight years in the petrochemicals industry, holding positions in IR and organisation development and serving as Operation and Logistics Manager. Mabitsela proved his mettle when he rose to Assistant General Secretary of the Steel Engineering and Allied Workers Union.

There is no denying Murray Bolton's academic prowess and practical experience at the highest level - the joint CEO of Cargo Carriers has been with the company since 1985. Bolton (CA SA, BCom, Wits, BCompt Hons, Unisa) joined Cargo Carriers as Financial Administration Manager and, within two years, was appointed Financial Director. Bolton later completed a Sloan Fellowship at the London Business School and was appointed Joint CEO in 1992.

Garth Bolton

His ability and hands-on experience have earned him promotions from Contracts Controller to Branch Manager and finally, from Divisional Manager to joint CEO of Cargo Carriers. Bolton also served as chairman of the Road Freight Association for two years, and brings a wealth of experience at all levels of the industry to Ezethu.

Joe Khoza
Ezethu Director

The CEO of Mpande Energy Investments is a bona fide pioneer. During Khoza's 13 years in the oil industry, he has travelled the continent extensively as Retail and Marketing Executive for Shell Southern and Central Africa. Khoza (BCom, Unisa) was also involved in the launch of Afric Oil - South Africa's first black-owned oil company - and developed Soweto's first Select convenient store.
