Corporate Social Responsibility
Cargo Carriers is committed to growing
and investing in socially responsible business activities,
employment equity and diversity, skills development, as well
as sustainable social responsibility projects.
Specific policy guidelines have been established
for dealing with HIV/AIDS in the workplace. This policy is
reviewed regularly to ensure compliance and adherence to any
new social or legislative developments.
Cargo Carriers have undertaken various Corporate Social Responsibility investments, many of them linked directly to the transport communities that are the lifeblood of the business. These include investments in the Industry Wellness Programme – Truckers Against AIDS initiative, in excess of R1M per year towards the Training and Development donations to CANSA, CHOC, the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), The Hope School, Cotlands and Door of Hope for AIDS orphans.
During May 2008, Cargo Carriers unveiled the latest Corporate Social Responsibility Project – sponsoring a remarkable group of young artists, handpicked from various previously disadvantaged communities, to form the Lesedi Choir based in Heidelberg – Gauteng.
It is the sustainability of this choir and the development of the abilities of these young people that we want to foster through our sponsorship of the group, not only directly through our business interests, but also through trying to ensure our cultural heritage is looked after.
