Chemicals
The Southern African Chemicals Industry
contributes approximately 25% of the country's manufacturing
sales. Its substantial economic significance continues to
grow as a concerted effort is made by the Chemical and Allied
Industries' Association (CAIA) to promote the efficiency,
productivity and competitiveness of the industry.
Cargo Carriers
is highly aware of the major re-shaping being undertaken within
the chemicals industry and has developed its own rigorous standards
to address the industry's three particularly pressing needs
with respect to the transportation:
- Safety, Health, Environment and Quality
- Empowerment
- Seasonal Capacity
We are, in fact, no strangers to the requirements
of the chemical supply chain. For 18 years we have been the
sole transporter for NECSA. Our world-class
safety methodology and skills ensure we are the transporter
of choice.
Critical to high service levels in this
sector is the ability to react to unforeseen problems. Our
call centre is manned 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Sasolburg is the main hub of our holistic chemical operation and is well supported by substantial operations at Newcastle and Durban. Our high levels of technical excellence, longstanding experience and our extensive existing physical supply chain infrastructure position us well for the years ahead.
Cargo Carriers - shaping up to the future
It is our awareness of the non-negotiable
standards within the chemicals industry that sets us apart:
- Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Protection -
our absolute compliance with Hazchem Safety Standards is
beyond question. From our truck to our highly skilled, well-trained
personnel, Cargo Carriers is beyond a doubt 100% safety
aware. Our audit results reflect and excellent safety record,
and we have recently upgraded our highly efficient 24 hour
response line, staffed with skilled, well trained people.
- Empowerment structures
- in line with the empowerment policy
practiced within the Southern African Chemicals Industry,
Cargo Carriers is a strong practitioner of empowerment,
from ground level up. We believe that empowerment provides
us with an opportunity to increase safety and efficiency
levels. At Cargo, we believe the levels of black participation
in the ownership, management and control of our business
is a growth imperative.
Setting ourselves apart from the competition
A number of crucial differentiators ensure
we remain a transporter of choice:
- Seasonal capacity
- parts of the chemical industry are very seasonal and can
be a logistical nightmare in terms of fluctuating demand
patterns. Our eCargo division is fully equipped to add much
needed capacity at peak periods. eCargo is a virtual fleet
on hand at any given time. Our rigorous safety levels are
applied to all vehicles utilised - we only trust a first
class fleet to wear our brand name. Having one point of
management ensures both cost efficiency and control when
dealing with such a large, diverse fleet, on a national
basis.
- Supply chain design
- our approach as a holistic supply
chain provider allows us to add enormous value to transportation
in the chemicals industry. Our hands-on experience and IT
capability ensures the smooth running of any operation from
start to finish.
- Branch
network - our established branch network is staffed
by highly skilled employees and is ideally located to support
the chemicals industry. The company is ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 accredited across all branches.
Cargo Carriers
has been a trusted and highly respected transporter in the
chemicals industry for the past 30 year in South Africa. Our
reputation is built on our commitment to the job at hand,
our high safety standards and our extensive branch network.
We have the ability to develop transportation into a holistic
supply chain service, the capability to cope with seasonable
demand and the willingness and structures in place to embrace
empowerment in a meaningful way.
Fuel
The South African petroleum industry is
currently worth an estimated R42 billion per annum. Employing
more than 100 000 people, it is an industry of great importance
to the country and has led the way in terms of empowerment
policies.
Empowerment and Safety - going hand in hand
At Cargo Carriers we are in the process
of addressing the two major, non-negotiable issues involved
in the transportation of petroleum - safety and empowerment.
Our business is built on the following world class skill sets,
and will ensure that we are the transporter of choice within
the industry:

to help transform the industry

documentation-flow back to the consignor

A number of crucial differentiators sets
us apart from the competition:

ourselves to setting new safety and empowerment standards
beyond those already well established within the petroleum
industry
